Do You Smell Like Jesus?
Even as a grown woman, I want to know that I have my dad's approval, and it's the same way with my heavenly Father. Sometimes, I just need reassurance that God is pleased with my choices and my behavior, especially when I face a challenging situation. Let me explain
Tearfully, I had cried out to God asking him to affirm that I was serving him well. I was in a difficult situation, to say the least, and needed to know that my behavior was in line with his will. I woke early to spend time with the Lord, and I was presented with a scripture that was new to me.
But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ’s triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:14-15
I was completely fixated on the words, "...uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ." Like the aroma of a pleasing sacrifice on the altar, are those who resemble Christ. With eyes looking heavenward, in childlike fashion I whispered, "I just want to smell like you, Jesus. Do I smell good like you? Am I spreading the sweet aroma of you to those around me?"
I closed my Bible, prepared for work, and continued to think about smelling like Jesus. I entered my office and was greeted with a warm embrace from a dear colleague. As we shared a quick hug, she looked at me and remarked, "You smell so good!" I quickly released her embrace, looked into her eyes, and simply responded, "Why, Thank you so much! I'm just so glad to hear that!" My heart thrilled; It was as if God was speaking directly through her lips into my soul! I felt the assurance that my actions aligned with His good and perfect will.
