Finish the Ride
My husband and I recently took our daughter and grandchildren to LegoLand. While there, we rode a rollercoaster called The Dragon. As my grandson Jax and I prepared for the ride, he calmly asked me to hold his hand. The ride began slowly and for a time, Jax was relaxed and smiling. But as we climbed the first and greatest hill, he asked me to hold his other hand, requiring me to reach across his body leaving him pinned even tighter to the seat. As you may expect, once we reached the pinnacle, the ride became turbulent, twisting, turning, and tossing us about in our seats. Through that time, Jax didn’t say a word. He just held on tightly and finished the ride.
As I reflect on this time with my grandson, I am reminded of pinnacle times in my life; times when everything is uphill and the outlook is bright. These times are no doubt followed by twisting, turning, and turbulent times. But like Jax, I can rest in Jesus arms and finish the ride knowing I’m safe. Hebrews 13:8 tells us that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And because Jesus is steady, I can rest easy even when the world around me is out of control!
