Fortify Friday

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. -Romans 8:26-28

This message version of Romans really speaks in this time of uncertainty and unimaginable change. We are all facing newness and unknown. Together we have fears over this Pandemic that is sweeping the world, taking lives and threatening all in its way. But through it all we have found togetherness even when we are apart. We are finding blessings in our lighter schedules and our slower pace. Over all the fear we are uniting as a country to come out of this stronger than when we started.

The sunny days don’t take away the fear, they just subside if for a time. The board games and puzzles help us go to a place of peace. The extra naps and the channel surfing allow us to get lost in a different world for a time. But reality isn’t going anywhere very soon. And so in the moments when we remember the immensity of what’s going on around us, we can go to God. When we are fearful, God knows. When we are tired, God knows. When we start to lose hope, God knows. The Holy Spirit takes all of our fear and worry and questions straight to a loving God who is in charge of all things. Our moans and our cries for help turn into prayer without us even knowing. Our thoughts go straight to God in times when we don’t have words for how we feel and they are turned into beautiful prayers, through the help of the Holy Spirit.

So while things here on earth aren’t exactly what you had planned. When the fear and pain are too much you don’t even have words for it, believe that God knows. Believe that the Holy Spirit is turning all pain and confusion and fear into beautiful words offered up to God. And keep standing tall. Keep your head held high, because God will make good of all this and He does know exactly what you need even when you don’t.
